I was invited to the Dec. 26th Tennessee Valley Hunt Boxing Day at Riverplains Farm. For anyone that knows me, I always worry about the animals, so I was pretty hesitiant to agree to a hunt. After a lot of questions I learned that TVH hounds are bred for their voices instead of speed which means that are not usually fast enough to catch a fox or coyote. I also gathered that the focus of the hunt is definitely not to injure anything, so I finally agreed to give it a try. I would be riding Ritza, Rachel's CDE Fresian/Saddlebred mare in the third field (hilltoppers), which was to be led by Rachel.

Unfortunately the Middle Tennessee Carriage Club ADT was cancelled this year, and when Rachel found out she got on the phone and arranged a trip to the Cannon Carriage Driving Center which is the home of Elizabeth Keathley and Valhalla Farms.

Mom and Dad drove up for Thanksgiving. We had a good time eating, drinking and really appreciating family and how lucky we are.
TJ and I ran over to Shakertown for a ride/drive with Emma and Will on Friday for a Spokes and Spurs get together while Mom and Dad did a quick tour. On Saturday we went back over to Shakertown and watched the Woodford Hounds Blessing of the Hounds. While I am not keen on running around killing things for sport, the concept of the whole process based on it's origins is intriguing and to watch that many people follow a pack of dogs across a field is impressive.
