Woodsmith Farm is located in the heart of the Bluegrass, in Harrodsburg, KY, where limestone springs and lush pastures provide excellent nutrition for both cattle and horses.
We are a small family owned farm that was originally purchased in 1997 but it took us 6 years to get the unimproved land set up for livestock with good barns and fencing. The farm started out on 25 acres and in 2003 an adjacent 13 acres were purchased. In 2009 the final 5 acres were purchased so the full 43 acre original farm is back together again. Approximately 30 acres of pasture is in 4 board plank fencing with a few more paddocks on the drawing board. In 2008 we put in a MiraFount automatic ball waterer and plan on installing 2 more in 2009 because we like them so much. We have 4 barns that are used for the cattle working pens, horses, hay and equipment storage. A 105'x200' Class I arena provides almost year round riding and driving. We have jumps and cones and I hope to have a hazard or 2 in the future. We lease another 12 acres just down the road for some of the cattle operation and weaning.
We manage the land by not overgrazing, rotating pastures and always keeping the animal's health and welfare as our number one concern.
In addition to our cattle and horses, we have 4 dogs and 2 cats all of which were strays or rescues. As a result, we are strong proponents of spaying and neutering. Please support your local humane society and breed selectively.
