While out feeding on my birthday, I heard a cow bawling. I decided to see what was going on and found her staring past the fence down into the woods. Her calf must have tried to get up and rolled under the fence, and down into the woods.
I picked him up and put him back over the fence, but I was a little concerned mom was going to flatten me so I didn't get him too far back into the field. I went to call TJ and by the time I got back he had rolled back down the hill into the woods...about 30 feet. I picked him up again and walked backwards w/him between me and mom into the middle of the field before I finally decided mom's nose on my arm was too close for comfort and put him down and backed away.TJ got the pair into the working area and had the little guy nursing before too long. He was a month early and weighed just 59lbs.
It's been a week and the calf named Justin is doing well and out with the other calves now.
