We did it. We completed the 25 mile Diehard Endurance ride.
The ride itself was a lot of fun and despite being the last three to finish, I thought we did a great job and completed the race in about 3.5 hours. Odessa's vet checks went really well and her recovery times were very good. We were just trying to finish and not set any records so the pace that the two women I rode with was perfect.
I can not say thank you enough to them for guiding Odessa and me through the course. We would have never made it without them and their fabulous Quarter Horses. Thank you!!
I forgot about one little episode where Odessa laid down with me on the trail. I've not discouraged her from rolling immediately after a workout, whether it be loose behind the barn, in the field or hooked to a lead rope. We were walking at one point and she started to put her head down and I thought it was odd and maybe she wanted to eat some grass so I let her. Before I could blink she was going down. I kicked my feet out and rolled off of her still holding onto the reins. She didn't roll thank goodness because we were all yelling at her. She got up, I hopped on and off we went. She thought about it one other time in the freshly tilled firebreaks. Guess we have to put a stop to this routine.
