The temps were definitely warmer today and the house was pretty comfortable this morning despite no heat source during the night.
I again went out to feed while TJ started the generator and the kerosene heater. All of the ice was off the trees and only a layer of snow and ice on the ground was left.
After barn chores we cleaned the house and in discussing how appreciative we were of our generator (Troy Built 5550 of Brad's and Coleman 3750), heater, water, etc. we did agree that the only part of all of this that was beginning to cause just the slightest hitch in our lives was laundry. I was out of town prior to the storm so I was going on 2 weeks with out my unmentionables getting laundered and my stock was running low. With 7 dogs, 2 cats and a farm lifestyle, we also do a lot of other kinds of laundy. I had to go into work, but TJ decided to do laundry by washing in the normal washer and hanging everything up outside and in the basement. He did 3 loads of laundry in no time.
TJ wanted me to run by Lowes to pick up a 30 amp plug and some 10/2 wire to get the hot water heater wired in to the generator more efficiently so after work I headed there. I understand why some people are struggling with this power outage. We are fortunate to have the money to purchase the carbon monoxide tester ($36), the kerosene ($5/gallon-$25), gas ($35), wire ($58-), plug ($18), etc. This has been an expensive week and we already had the generators, kerosene heater, extension cords, flashlights, etc.
The power came back on about 7pm! We cheered. Thank you to all of the people that worked non-stop to get the power back so quickly!
