Ijsbrand Chardon (NED) had the fastest overall time on the marathon after a questioning start to the day when his vandalized vehicle was discovered just hours before his scheduled marathon start time. The jury agreed to let him go at the end of the day and it was a line of orange as the Dutch spectators followed Ijsbrand from obstacle to obstacle.
Second to Ijsbrand was Tomas Eriksson (SWE) and then the current leader Boyd Exell (AUS). Despite a broken hand Boyd was able to hold onto his first place standing with 130.52 penalties to 132.24 for Ijsbrand (NED) and 147.06 for Tucker Johnson (USA).
The Australian team, which has never medaled in a World Equestrian Games, is only .75 points behind the third place Swedish team going into tomorrow's cones competition.
The pressure is on.
