Everyone has opinions which makes the world an amazing and diverse place. After a recent Facebook drama and some explosive responses , I thought I would look around to see if I could dig up some interesting rhetoric on what people thought of "fun hunting."
I get the concept of fun hunting and accept that it's part of our culture. If you've ever been fox hunting, you understand how much fun it is to go running through the woods and up and over coops. I can't think about it without my heart starting to beat wildly, but for me personally I can't get past the chasing and killing part no matter how much fun the other parts are. That's just me though and I will continue to be friends with people that hunt and just decline politely when asked to go.
What I don't get is killing as a result of misunderstanding, fear or social standards. Snakes, alligators, opossums, spiders, turtles, raccoons, rats, mice, scorpions, coyotes, etc. are all part of life and nature is usually a practical mother if left alone. We might not always agree with her decisions but in the big picture they are usually pretty beneficial. The circle of life is big things eat small things and small things eat big things. It's just the way it's always been.

... And I never look at an opossum without thinking about how sweet Sara was and how funny Simon was...Changed my view of them. |
