Sitting in first and second place going into stadium jumping, Mary rode her second place horse Fernhill Urco earlier so that she would have time to switch tack and warm up her first place horse Kings Temptress. After a clear round on Urco, she only had herself to beat. Kings Temptress "picked up her feet" as King hoped she would and Mary became the only person in history to win both the first and second place seats at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event.
29 year old Sinead Halpin of Gladstone, NJ put in a surprising but stunning performance to become the only American to finish in the top 5. Halpin moved up to third place just ahead of William Fox-Pitt after Australian rider Clayton Fredericks knocked a rail. Halpin worked in William Fox-Pitt's stable in 2008 and he was quoted as being proud of her placing.
