Mare that's really a horse

Is she a she or really a he?  This is one confused horse.

This is an interesting article that was recently published in Hoof Beats magazine about a horse that has been racing with the girls because no one knew she wasn't really a she.

After winning a race, Arizona Helen's trainer was told that she had tested positive for steroids.  Bilach said that can't be and had her evaluated to find out what could have caused the positive testosterone test.

Per Hoof Beats magazine, Dr. Patty Hogan found internal gonads and a penile-like formation under her tail, which at a glance could pass as a normal mare's vulva.  Arizona Helen is really a male pseudohermaphrodite which is a genetic male born with external genitalia that looks female.

Read the article for all of the details.  Fascinating.
