Life has been very busy these days. The farm, the horses, and work have been filling every free minute, which is a good thing.
I don't believe I have mentioned that Rachel has set a goal for Erin D. and me to ride 200 miles on our green horses this summer. So far I have 20 miles in and I believe Erin D. has 30, which is a long way to 200.
This weekend we attended the Spokes and Spurs weekend at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and had a great time. On Saturday, Rachel drove the girls and Erin D., TJ, and I rode. We trotted quite a bit and both Erin D. and I cantered for the first time on our greenies. Odessa has a great canter. She's such a good girl. Other than her normal spooking weirdness, the only thing she did bad was freak out if anyone was behind her. She's really insecure so she always thinks everyone is out to hurt her. She kicked out once at Will and thought for sure she just missed taking TJ out too. It was a little scary and something we will need to work on.
We all rode on Sunday, me on Ritza, Rachel on Bella, and Erin on Taos. Taos is awesome. He goes anywhere you point him without so much as an eye blink. Bella and Ritza, not so much, but they are still wonderful too. I think I need to get a different saddle. It's tough to gallop across the fields, take off quickly, etc. and not get left behind in my saddle it seems. I rode in Rachel's for just a few minutes and I could tell after just a brief trot, that while it was different, I had a more secure leg position in it. My saddle is good for some things but I don't think it's going to cut it for the faster riding. I am going to go through my tack room to see what I can put on eBay so I can buy an eventing type saddle.
