We have a new dog staying with us (not sure about permanent residency yet) and she has brought about a whole new level of house and yard destruction. She's a 9 month old lab/rottie mix. She's a great little dog but on the go constantly and with an attention span of about .5 seconds. After she ate a boot, two shoes, the dog brush and a watering can, a desperate run to the pet store yesterday produced three dog toys. When I got home, there was a 6' limb on the front porch. Only one dog that has ever lived with us has fetched or liked toys, so my other dogs just stared at me when I offered them Lila's new toys. Lila willing ran after them with about 50% retrieval to flybys.
So far the WSF residents are all in a state of shock at her energy level. Bob and Gina seem to have the best handle on her and they sort of tolerate her and occasionally play. Maddie is horrified by Lila's play attempts. Izzie is disgusted by such out of control behavior. Little Man is guarded but tolerant as long as she stays away. Spivey seems to want to play but can't figure out how to safely because of her size and energy. In turn Lila seems to like everyone but the cats are a big source of uncertainty, especially if they run from her. I am very cautious to not let everyone out unattended at the same time.
She's a very smart and kind dog, so I hope we can get the personality dynamics to work out so that everyone is safe and happy.
